Reactive Generators offers comprehensive generator load testing, personally tailored to suit your needs from 1kW all the way up to 3000kW. Our team of qualified and experienced professionals only use quality equipment, calibrated load banks and proven testing procedures to provide an all-inclusive and guaranteed independent load testing service. We recommend annual testing for most standby/emergency generators and after any low loading situations for prime power generators. 

3 Month Servicing

We strongly recommend servicing every three months, as it is the most reliable and encouraged servicing option. If you opt for 3 month servicing, a member of our team will ensure your stand-by generator is in tip top condition. 

As part of the 3 month stand-by generator maintenance check you can expect the following steps to take place –

Step One

A trusty member of our team will check all of your generator’s shut-down alarms to make sure they are operating correctly. Including all non-critical alarms. 

Step Two

 We will then check your oil level, coolant level and coolant inhibitor level to ensure all is as it should be. 

Step Three

The next step is to check your battery condition, check the operation of jack water heaters (if applicable), check battery terminals and check battery charger operations. 

Step Four

Then we will check all components on the control board for correct operation along with a visual inspection of your genset and report, the air filter elements and renewal if necessary.

Step Five

Finally, we will drain any water/sediment from the primary fuel filter and ensure the auto start time is accurate.

Note

If we find any additional issues / repairs we can, where possible amend on site, following your approval. 

6 Month Servicing

The next tier is 6 month servicing, a reliable option for most generators. The five steps mentioned under 3 months servicing will take place at the 6 months service, PLUS the following additional steps:

Step One

All 3 month servicing steps are carried out.

Step Two

Your Reactive Generators team member will take a sample for analysis of your generator’s oil level and top it up if necessary.

Step Three

The coolant level and condition will then be assessed and if deemed necessary a sample shall also be taken for analysis (followed by the testing of the oil pressure shut-down switch. SCAP, PART OF SHUTDOWN CHECKS)

Step Four

(Next the high water temperature and shut down switch will be tested.SCRAP, PART OF SHUTDOWN CHECKS) Followed by checking of all cable connections within the alternator, circuit breaker and/or outlet panel are in order. 

Step Five

Finally, we will ensure there are no oil, fuel or water leaks throughout your generator, plant room and bulk fuel storage system

If we find any additional issues / repairs we will amend on site, following your approval. 

Annual (12 Month) Servicing

12 Month Servicing covers everything necessary in preventive maintenance and servicing. You can expect the following:

Step One

We will change the following; oil and filter/s, fuel filter/s, coolant filter/s (if applicable) and air filter/s. 

Step Two

We will check the following; level of coolant, cable connections at alternator and that the fuel pump operation is sound. 

Step Three

Next, is checking for leaks of any kind, the condition and tension of all drive belts and that mounting nuts (for the turbo-charger) are secure. 

Step Four

Then we will check the next round of items: shut down alarms, non-critical alarms, battery condition, condition of jack water heaters, battery terminals and battery charger operation.

Step Five

Finally we will check the restriction indicators for air filters (replacing if required SHOULD BE DONE EVERY TIME AT MINOR), the auto start time is in check with the mains failure and undertake a visual inspection of gensets and report.)

Note

If we find any additional issues / repairs we will amend on site, following your approval. 

Periodic Servicing

ALL PART OF MINORS AND NOT IN THE RIGHT ORDER, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE WITH A MAJOR IS THE REPLACEMENT OF FLUIDS (EXCEPT COOLANT, COOLANT IS CHANGED EITHER BY DETERMINATION OF EXPIRY, LOW GLYCOL CONCENTRATE LEVEL TESTED OR CONTAMINATION FOUND) AND FILTERS AND IT IS ALSO WHEN LOAD TESTING IS GENERALLY CARRIED OUT. 

FLUID SAMPLING EVERY SIX MONTHS, INCLUDING DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM (DAY TANK AND BULK STORAGE TANK).

MAINS FAILURE/BUILDING TRANSFER TEST CARRIED OUT IF APPLICABLE AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS SUIT EVERY SIX MONTHS ALSO. 

ALL MINOR CHECKS, SHUTDOWNS ETC ETC SHOULD BE CHECKED EVERY TIME A TEAM MEMBER IS ON SITE.

ALL NOTED DEFECTS ARE TO BE INSTANTLY REPORTED AND WHERE POSSIBLE AMENDED ONSITE IF NOT A QUOTE FOR RECTIFICATION SHALL ACCOMPANY OUR ELECTRONIC SERVICE REPORTS.

ALL TECHNICIANS USE TABLETS ONSITE, FULL OF ALL REPORT TEMPLATES, RISK ASSESSMENTS, SWMS ETC AND THE CLIENT CAN SIGN REPORT WITH STYLUS TO LATER RECEIVED AS PDF.

How much fuel will my generator consume?

This depends on the makeup of your specific generator and to best answer this question we would require more detail on your generator so don’t hesitate to get in touch. WILL VARY ON ENGINE TYPE, LOAD ON GENERATOR, UNTOWARD ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS, OVERALL GENERATOR HEALTH AND FUEL STORAGE SIZE.

What type of oil is recommended for my generator?

There are three premium oil choices that Reactive Generators recommends to our clients. However, it is important to note that the best oil for your unit will vary depending on your generator’s environment and temperature range within it, your generator’s engine make and variance/dictation in the engine model as well as its proposed operating fuel. 

(For example, in a warmer climate (like most of QLD) we recommend SAE 30 as it is suited to temperatures exceeding 32°F. For a colder climate closer to 40°F and under we suggest 10W-30. If you are looking for an all rounder that will suit either warm or cold temperatures then Synthetic 5W-30 is your best bet. SCRAP, NOT RIGHT)

Where are Reactive Generators located?

Step Two:

One of our knowledge team members will start the generator and allow the machine to run until it has reached nominal operating temperature and monitor data parameters. This process will identify any initial problems with the engine, alternator and or control system, which must be rectified before the load testing can commence.

Step Three:

We will then begin incrementing load upon the generator, generally starting with 25% of the generators specified capacity and continuing until 100% load is achieved. At each step data is collected and recorded, including for the duration of a continued load period at 100%, to assure consistency in performance is maintained.  

Step Four:

Over the continued load period at 100%, we will continue to observe the generator, watching for overheating, listening for unusual noises and monitoring the outputs. The length of this process is dependent on each individual generator and or any inhouse requirements you may need met. If any issues are identified, the generator is immediately shut down to minimise the damage and submitted for repairs before being returned to service. 

Step Five:

After the conclusion of testing, the generator is run under a light load for cooling, before all loads are removed and the generator is shut down.
